Mount Vernon’s showing at the OHSAA Girls Wrestling State Championship was highlighted by a dominant title run from Ashlynn Brokaw, who captured the 110-pound championship against a deep field of competition.
Brokaw opened strong with a pin over Ashlynn Pennington of Alliance in 2:24, setting the tone early. She followed with a 7–1 quarterfinal decision over Anna Tsirambidis of North Royalton, controlling the match with steady scoring. In the semifinals, Brokaw faced her toughest challenge, edging Presley Sandobal of Maysville 4–3 in an ultimate tiebreaker (UTB) to secure her spot in the finals.
In the championship match, Brokaw delivered her most complete performance, defeating Emma Gorrell of Warren by a 13–4 major decision. She controlled the pace throughout, using multiple takedowns to build a commanding lead and seal the title.
The victory marked Brokaw’s second consecutive state championship, cementing her status as one of Ohio’s top wrestlers. Her run showcased both dominance and resilience, from early pins to a pressure-filled semifinal win.
As a team, Mount Vernon finished outside the top 20 in the final standings, lacking the depth to contend for a team placement. Still, Brokaw’s title stood as a major highlight and a defining achievement for the program.
