Mount Vernon Battles Hard in Narrow Defeat to Delaware Hayes

Mount Vernon’s Fighting Jackets engaged in a competitive match against Delaware Hayes on Friday night, ultimately falling short with a final score of 41-34. The game was marked by high scoring and intense exchanges between the two teams.

According to reports, quarterback Mason Richards led Mount Vernon with an impressive performance, carrying the ball 24 times for 222 yards and scoring three touchdowns. His efforts kept the team within reach throughout the game. Richards also contributed through the air, throwing for 55 yards, including a 21-yard touchdown pass to Landon Dawson. Dawson completed the game with two catches for 29 yards and one touchdown, while Dammon Wolfe added two receptions for nine yards.

The Fighting Jackets accumulated a total of 391 offensive yards, with 336 of those coming from their ground game. This success was attributed to a determined offensive line that consistently created opportunities. Jake Hubbard contributed an additional 64 rushing yards, and Ben Fitzpatrick added another 21.

Defensively, Mount Vernon challenged Delaware Hayes by limiting them to just six first downs in the first half and maintaining a tie at 20-20 as they entered the fourth quarter.
