Mount Vernon High School girls wrestling competed alongside Licking Valley High School during the OHSAA Girls Division I District Wrestling Tournament finals, highlighted by Ashlynn Brokaw capturing the 110-pound district championship.
The event took place at Big Walnut High School and featured athletes from both schools advancing through various rounds of competition. The tournament is a key step for wrestlers aiming to qualify for the state meet, providing an opportunity for standout performances and advancement in their respective brackets.
Mount Vernon’s standout performance came from Ashlynn Brokaw at 110 pounds, who advanced through her semifinal bout and dominated the championship match to secure the Big Walnut District title while improving her record to 40-2… Khadija Ndow entered Sunday hoping to battle through the consolation bracket at 170 pounds but was forced to medically forfeit her final match due to an injury sustained earlier in the tournament… Licking Valley also celebrated a major performance from senior Adison Justice, who powered through the semifinals and won the district championship at 140 pounds, improving her season record to 42-3… At 100 pounds, Kenly Muzykoski continued her tournament run in the consolation bracket after advancing by forfeit on Saturday.
The championship rounds of the district tournament took place on March 8, at Big Walnut High School.
Brokaw’s victory secures her spot as a top contender heading into upcoming state-level competition. Other athletes from Mount Vernon and Licking Valley will continue their seasons based on their results in both championship and consolation brackets.
