Mount Vernon used a decisive fourth-quarter push to edge Madison Comprehensive 40–35 in a girls’ varsity basketball non-conference game Tuesday.
The game was played Dec. 23 at Mount Vernon High School.
Mount Vernon set the tone early and never let up, pulling out a 40–35 win over Madison Comprehensive. The Yellow Jackets opened with a 5–2 lead after the first quarter and carried that momentum into halftime, edging ahead 15–14 despite a strong second-quarter push from Madison. In the third, Mount Vernon stayed within striking distance before breaking the game open in the fourth, pouring in 16 points to secure the victory. Their steady start and explosive finish highlighted the team’s resilience, as they turned a tight contest into a decisive late-game triumph.

Mount Vernon held the upper hand the last time they squared off with Madison Comprehensive, earning a 49–40 victory in November 2024.
