Mount Vernon Yellowjackets lost to Archbishop Moeller Fighting Crusaders 3–1 in a varsity boys volleyball non-conference match.

The match was played at Mount Vernon High School, where the Yellow Jackets were unable to overcome Moeller’s early momentum after dropping the first two sets 25–17 and 25–22. According to MaxPreps, “Mt. Vernon showed stretches of strong play throughout the four-set match, but the Yellow Jackets were unable to overcome Moeller’s early momentum after dropping the first two sets 25–17 and 25–22. Sophomore Luca Nicholas led Mount Vernon’s attack with six kills on 16 swings, finishing with a 37.5 percent kill rate and adding four block assists to anchor the front line. Senior Brant Karns contributed three kills and three digs, while sophomore Kenton Strouse added two kills and five digs as the Yellow Jackets worked to extend rallies and stay within reach. Defensively, Mount Vernon leaned heavily on junior Cooper Swanson, who posted a team high 10 digs and handled 35 serve receive attempts, part of the team’s 72 total receptions on the night. Junior Kirklin Kanuckel also delivered a steady performance with 14 digs and 20 serve receives, helping stabilize the back row. Despite the defensive effort, Mt. Vernon struggled with consistency at the net, recording 25 attacking errors, while 14 service errors limited opportunities to build sustained pressure. The Yellow Jackets’ blocking unit produced eight total blocks, including four from Nicholas, but Moeller’s steady offense ultimately closed out the match.” according to MaxPreps.

The outcome leaves Mount Vernon looking ahead to their next contest against Bishop Fenwick at Bishop Watterson on Saturday, April 11 at 11:30 a.m., according to MaxPreps.

The Yellow Jackets’ previous meeting with Bishop Fenwick came on March 22, 2025—a match that ended in a similar result with Mount Vernon falling by a score of 3–1 according to MaxPreps.
